AJAGAR SOCIAL CIRCLE
India's Premier NGO for Disaster Response
Ajagar Social Circle (ASC) is a community-driven organization based in Assam, dedicated to providing disaster relief, recovery, and preparedness support across the northeastern region of India. With a focus on vulnerable communities in districts like Goalpara, Dhubri, and Chirang, ASC delivers integrated humanitarian assistance—including food, shelter, education, and livelihood restoration—during times of crisis. Their efforts have positively impacted over 30,000 lives through initiatives such as flood relief, ethnic conflict rehabilitation, and capacity-building programs.
As a District Disaster Response & Information Centre partner in Goalpara, ASC collaborates with government bodies and international donors like Mercy Corps, Oxfam, and Tata Trusts to ensure timely and effective relief operations. Their mission is to build resilient communities through grassroots action, combining emergency response with long-term development initiatives.
Why Disaster Management?
India ranks among the most disaster-prone nations globally, with a significant portion of its population regularly affected by natural calamities. In the northeastern region, particularly in Assam and Meghalaya, communities frequently face challenges such as floods, ethnic conflicts, and other emergencies that disrupt livelihoods and well-being.
Ajagar Social Circle (ASC), established in 2001 and headquartered in Goalpara, Assam, has been at the forefront of addressing these challenges. Recognizing the need for localized and proactive disaster management, ASC has implemented a range of initiatives aimed at relief, recovery, and preparedness. Their efforts encompass providing emergency shelter, food, medical assistance, and livelihood support to affected communities. Notably, ASC has been instrumental in relief and rehabilitation programs during events like the Garo-Rabha ethnic clashes and recurrent floods in the region.
By collaborating with government agencies and international organizations, ASC continues to strengthen its disaster response mechanisms, ensuring that vulnerable populations receive timely and effective assistance during crises.
