


| ABOUT US
Ajagar Social Circle (ASC) is an initiative launched by eight like-minded young practitioners with a shared vision to drive socio-economic change, support low-income communities, and expand livelihood opportunities in the northeastern region of India. Currently, ASC is engaged in a range of well-defined activities that collectively aim to ensure social and economic security for farming, allied, and non-farming communities in the Assam– Meghalaya belt.
As a grassroots organization, ASC has gained valuable experience across multiple sectors. Livelihood promotion has been its core focus since inception, complemented by initiatives in education, skill development, relief, and rehabilitation.
Over the years, ASC has built a strong reputation among donors, funders, communities, and government authorities. Its work spans areas such as livelihood promotion, health and nutrition, training and capacity building, WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene), relief and rehabilitation, and education. The organization has successfully mobilized resources from reputed partners including NABARD, NEDFi, GIZ, DASRA, Ashraya Hastha Trust, World Bank, Tata Trust, NRTT, Ford Foundation, as well as government agencies such as the Goalpara District Administration, PWD, PHE, Agriculture Department, Fisheries Department, among others.
At present, ASC operates in some of the most remote parts of the North East, focusing on Goalpara, Bongaigaon and Dhubri are aspirational districts of Assam— and Chirang district under the BTAD. The communities served include vulnerable groups such as Garo, Rabha, Tribal, and minority communities.

| GENESIS OF AJAGAR
- 1998: Eight unemployed youths from Agia locality started coal trading for self-employment but the initiative failed.
- 1999: Shifted to agriculture by cultivating HYV paddy seed on 10 acres of land at Ajagar foothill.
- 2000: Fully engaged in agriculture and formed "Ajagar Associate" under the Farming Registration Act.
- 2001: Expanded into social activities and registered "Ajagar Social Circle" under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
- 2002: Received first Government project – Jinjiram Watershed under NWDPRA through DRDA, Goalpara.
- 2004: Received SHG Bank Linkage Programme support from NABARD and implemented Haldidara Watershed Project under NWDPRA.
- 2005: Became Nodal NGO under the Assam Agricultural Competitiveness Project (AACP), funded by the World Bank.
- 2007: Established Microfinance Unit (Ajagar Microfinance).
- 2007: Formed Ajagar Agro Producer Co. Ltd. to provide marketing and technical support to farmers.
- 2007: Established Ajagar Valley Academy (school).
- 2008: Started Micro Insurance Unit in partnership with LIC.
- 2009: Became representative of North Eastern Finance Development Corporation Ltd. (NEDFi).
- 2010: Involved in disaster relief and rehabilitation programmes.
- 2011: Selected as Field NGO under the RCH Programme of NRHM.
- 2012: Started livelihood projects in collaboration with Indian Grameen Services and NABARD.
- 2013: Received first international grants from Mercy Corps, ActionAid, and Ford Foundation.
- 2014: Entered the education sector with development projects for minority communities.
- 2015: Began transformation of the Microfinance Unit from Society to NBFC-MFI.
- 2017: Obtained RBI license and started operations as NBFC-MFI.
- 2018: Established Ajagar Marketing Private Limited to support agricultural product marketing.
- 2020: Set up Rural Mart at Agia Bazar with support from NABARD and promoted Ajagar Adarsh Agro Producer Ltd. (FPO).
- 2022: Merged Rural Mart with GoalMart in collaboration with Goalpara District Administration and ASRLM.
- 2023: Registration renewed for the next five years.
- 2024: Expanded initiatives into sustainable agriculture, education, and skill development.
- 2025: Secured a grant from NABARD under the m-Suwidha programme to provide sustainable livelihood skills to 300 SHG/JLG members across 8 blocks in Goalpara district.
- 2026: Received NABARD sanction for FPO promotion under PODF-ID fund.
